Everything You Need To Know About The Georgia Driving Test

Ready To Hit The Road

You’ve gotten your permit and have been driving with a licensed adult in the vehicle for a year now. Your confidence has skyrocketed, and you are finally ready to get your provisional or unrestricted license. Keep reading to learn the basic requirements and what you need to know to go from permit holder to full-fledged license holder!

Requirements For Obtaining Your Drivers License

Before you can acquire your license, there are a few requirements you must complete. If you are under 18 years of age, you need to follow a graduated drivers license program to acquire your license. The requirements for the provisional/intermediate license are as follows.

  • Have held your Georgia instructional permit for at least one year.
  • Meet the minimum age requirement of 16 years of age. You will need to be 17 if you have not completed an approved Driver’s Ed course.
  • Completed at least 40 hours of supervised driving with your instructional permit. Six of these hours must be driven at night.
  • Completed an Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program.
  • Present necessary documentation including application, proof of identity, Social Security number, proof of residency, Certificate of Attendance and confirmation of your supervised driving. A parent, guardian or Driver’s Ed Instructor must be present.
